Re: “Let's all move forward

It’s really all about power isn’t it? That’s really the reason most are in city government. And those that thought they had the power just got their collective butts kicked. The powerful city leaders tried to use their most reliable weapon, fear; to scare the ignorant masses in to submission. Didn’t work; and here’s why.

Truth is the people don’t need government. Sure, it can have its perks and can create an orderly society (though that’s not guaranteed, but that’s a separate discussion), but the vast majority of history has shown that government is not really FOR the people. The other half of the truth is that the government absolutely does need the people. They need the peoples’ consent, their money, and their willingness to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion.

Are the people celebrating the butt whooping of the government? No, not really. But they are perhaps a little satisfied that the city has had huge reality check slap it in the face. I mean how absurd is it that the city would in any way think a tax increase is justified when so many are out of work or underemployed? HELLO!!!

If the city leaders want to be successful in raising additional revenues, they need look no further than the founding fathers. Come up with a revolutionary idea of government that will capture the imaginations of the people. Give them MORE than the status quo. Give them something they can get behind; even fight for. Make the value more than the cost.

See a theme here? Perhaps give more than you get?

As long as I keep hearing fear mongering, job protection, and the other same old tired arguments, I will never vote for a tax increase, even if the city government has to shut down.
