Colorado Springs has added two new items to its Homelessness Action Plan.

First, it will collaborate with service providers hoping to add 20 single-occupancy family emergency shelter units in 2019 and 40 new transitional housing units in 2020.

Second: Colorado Springs Police will train more officers to assist the police Homeless Outreach Team, and to "increase the number of hours dedicated to responding to issues involving the homeless."

The original action plan announced in October included eight suggested steps to address homelessness. The public feedback period ended Dec. 13. Andrew Phelps, the city's homelessness prevention and response coordinator, says the city plans to review and finalize the plan in January.
