The U.S. House of Representatives passed House Resolution 618, dubbed the Colorado Land Exchange Act of 2017, on a voice vote on Feb. 6. The bill, introduced by Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colorado Springs, calls for The Broadmoor to trade 320 acres west of Pikes Peak for 83 acres upon which the resort's Ranch at Emerald Valley sits. The Broadmoor currently operates the ranch under a lease with the Forest Service. The exchange also would give the federal government an easement for the lower portion of Barr Trail. This segment, oddly, is also included in the roughly 400 acres of wilderness land and trail easements the city would receive from The Broadmoor in the Strawberry Fields open space land-swap.
