The Colorado Department of Revenue’s Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) has released its 2017 annual update revealing some interesting trends in the industry, with the recreational market booming.

Recreational edible sales were up 29 percent from 2016, while medical edibles sales dropped 14 percent in that period. Likewise, more recreational concentrates were sold than medical.

A majority of new business licenses — 77 percent — were issued for recreational. A bright spot in the report: 95.1 percent of licensees passed underage sales checks (meaning they didn’t sell to underage people) compared with 94 percent passing in 2016.
