The Colorado Sun, founded by a group of former Denver Post employees who quit after a series of layoffs, is moving closer to reality.

You can now donate to the blockchain-backed online publication, expected to launch this summer, at http://kck.st/2t25P5c. And you can sign up for the Sun's newsletter at bit.ly/2tL20lC.

The Sun was founded in the wake of the Post's takeover by hedge fund Alden Global Capital in 2011. Since then, the Post's editorial staff has been cut down to about 70, spurring journalists there to protest through a series of editorial articles and a social media campaign.

Former senior Post editors Larry Ryckman and Dana Coffield will lead a team of eight award-winning journalists at the Sun. The Sun is supported by Civil, a company launching newsrooms throughout the country with a funding model based on blockchain technology and cryptoeconomics.
