Re: “A plan to downsize roads in the Old North End leads to a lawsuit

I don't live on Wood Ave. My house is two sheds that were rescued when they widened Cimarron to 4 lanes. But it is wonderful to drive along the wide streets of the Old North End and look at how the rich once lived. We are fortunate to have such a place, bordering on such a great green space as Monument Valley. When we were younger, my wife and I rode bicycles through Monument and up around Penrose and Corpus Christi, and admired the old trees and homes along the way. This is something to be preserved and improved upon, not destroyed. Yes, there needs to be a way through north to south, from Fillmore to Colorado and beyond. Union is not the answer. And the college campus should be autonomous, without traffic driving through it. Perhaps the neighborhood north of Uintah should be made a little more difficult to access, and Nevada and Cascade should be closed to through traffic south of Uintah through the campus. That would mean El Paso should go all the way through from Fillmore to Colorado to bypass the campus and old north neighborhood. That would give a way for accessing downtown without getting on I-25 for a few blocks, which is unsafe.

Re: “Give bears their space

It would be interesting to know how many people have been physically harmed by our little bears here. My experience with our bears is that they are no threat to humans, particularly if you use some common sense. Do nothing to enrage the bears, just turn and walk away. They don't want to mess with you any more than you do them. Secure food and garbage. Don't tempt them. Don't leave food in your car. And remember, we are living in their territory. If you don't like it, you may want to relocate.

Re: “Reader: Is the Cog being held for ransom?

You don't have to be a conspiracy theorist to realize that the citizens of COS often can't compete with the monied interests. It makes one wonder when the owner of The Gazette, the owner of Broadmoor, and the "city fathers/mothers" all operate on the same page. We all know it. We voted for TABOR to limit government control of our money even though we know Bruce is mentally defective. We voted for pot in COS, but the City Council "over-ruled" us. Transit Mix is trying to rip off taxpayers and cause yet another scar on our horizon, the Broadmoor suddenly owns the Cog and say they have no plans to maintain after 100 yrs. of being one of the biggest draws in the state, and land swaps of public for private lands favor the Broadmoor corporation over the interests of the citizens of COS and MS. It seems to the rank and file that a lot of money must be changing hands.

Re: “Where should the city's beloved/loathed stadium go?

Garden of the Gods should obviously be excavated to accommodate the stadium. Mrs. Mayor

Re: “Volunteer advisers, employees, and elected officials work together to administer parks

Bob, I appreciate your explanation in the Colorado Springs Independent regarding how policy gets made and who's responsible for decisions in the parks. One question that I don't think you answered; how did the blue frame get mounted in the park without any pre-publicity? When changes like that are proposed, wouldn't it be useful to have a public debate about it prior to having it mounted? Who has the power and gall to just give the order and have a thing like that mounted in the park? Is this not something that should not have happened in the first place? And what steps are being taken to make sure that such a thing can't happen again?
