Re: “Noted: Maketa saves sergeant from demotion

In reference to Maketa and Sevene; this conduct is disgusting! Why aren't these deputies and Sgts being held accountable for their behavior and conduct when it's obvious that it doesn't represent the sheriff's office in a favorable light? When is Charles Greenlee going to explain how the behavior and gross misconduct of county employees who are paid by taxpayer funds is not the public's business? I believe it is the public's business and if these people - accuser or accused - are too embarassed by the situation, they shouldn't have been involved with it to begin with.

Just another example of why Maketa should find another job. I don't think Colorado Springs or El Paso County needs someone like him or his complete lack of leadership or morals or honesty. This guys is a blight on this city and county and the public needs to step up and say ENOUGH of this GARBAGE!

And why hasn't Doreen Cardarelle been to work since this story was publicized? How do the citizens feel about their tax dollars being used to DOUBLE the salary in less than 3 years of a woman who doesn't seem qualified for her job and is only being paid that amount of money because 1) she oversees the budget and 2) she's alledgely involved in an inappropriate relationship w/the Sheriff???

Re: “No badge of courage for Sheriff Maketa

Great job Pam and Indy!! I found the article to be very interesting and everything mentioned had the printed records to back it up. Why the other news stations and paper isn't reporting on this is absurd. Just one way the media sways the public in only reporting what they want you to know about. We need more news outlets such as the Independent so that the public can be more informed.

One of the problems I have is that the sheriff was scaring the public last year with his "1A needs to pass or we're broke and crime will go up, less deputies on the road, etc..." Maybe instead of using county taxpayer money to give questionable raises to certain female employees for Maketa's benefit, use that money for actual deputies. If the sheriff's office was so broke, how did this money come about? I believe the raises and the year end bonuses were just for the benefit of making Maketa look good in the eyes of the employees who are fed up with the way things are handled. And WHY would a deputy not be relieved on his duties after he's had a confrontation with law enforcement and threatening them with a gun??? He shouldn't even be working in the jail, civilian or not. How far would Maketa go to support someone because of their years of service? Not what I would call great leadership.

And can someone tell me, what exactly is so great about Maketa anyway? He's done nothing that someone else couldn't do. His FBI training was paid for w/county money anyway and was during the course of his job. Big Deal! Detox, big deal. Someone else could've done that as well. I think term limits should NEVER have been taken away.
