Cripple Creek Ice Festival

Cripple Creek Ice Festival

When: Feb. 13-14 2016
Phone: 877/858-4653

It takes a special kind of artist to create a beautiful work that will eventually melt away into the earth. But for nine years now, ice sculptors have converged upon the mountain mining town of Cripple Creek to do just that. The Cripple Creek Ice Festival is a Colorado favorite, featuring glimmering sculptures carved with precision from unassuming blocks of ice. A family-friendly outing, many of the pieces are interactive, allowing viewers to touch and even climb the structures — one actually has a slide. Adults will enjoy the ice bar and liquor luge (and perhaps a gamble or two in the nearby casinos). This year's theme is quite fitting given the location: The Old West. There are plenty of other things to do while you're up there, so gather the clan and make a day of it. Feb. 13 to 15 and 20 to 21, Bennett Avenue, Cripple Creek, free; free parking and free shuttle from the Heritage Center on Highway 67, — Bridgett Harris
