Six years in business, Cupcake Girls weathered the brief boom in cupcake outfits that occurred around their opening, emerging as a go-to brand. A menu at the ordering counter, complete with colorful samples under glass cloches, lists more than 30 alluring cupcakes. They rotate regularly, so we get a choice from seven flavors to fill an order of four mini cupcakes ($6).

A Kahlúa cream sports a slight booze edge under whipped cream and cream cheese frosting. It’s rich, while that same descriptor sums up a cacao-potent chocolate sundae cupcake with a tiny caramel hint. Lighter and arguably lovelier are the lavender-lemon and blackberry Champagne flavors. The former zings with sour lemon essence, though the lavender’s sadly mute in this batch (needs more house-made extract). But the latter’s a study in perfection, with true fruit taste and a remarkably clean Champagne note in the buttercream frosting.
