Daniel’s has the military in mind with two strategic locations: this one outside Fort Carson and the other outside Peterson Air Force Base. Offering affordable Tex-Mex, the tidy strip mall spot’s menu reads entirely familiar, leaving us opting for an absurd kitchen-sink beast called the Gronk ($14.20), a foot-long, shredded cheese-topped burrito wrapped with an oversized tortilla, containing: refried beans, scrambled egg, rice, lettuce, pico, guacamole, sour cream, chopped steak, and two chile rellenos. For an extra couple bucks, they smother it half-and-half in thin red and green chile. Grab a knife and know that ingredients within tend to pocket in isolated areas. Mushy beans turn to fibrous chili threads, then tougher steak cubes, hit simply with garlic, salt and cumin. The green sauce delivers a medium smolder and the more interesting red an earthy, vinegary pop. It’s all just filling and fine, while horchata ($2.45/medium) smacks synthetic.
