Re: “Banning Lewis Ranch: $49 million in tax revenue over 30 years

The idea that development of BLR will "add $41 billion to the city's economy" is presented as though that is a benefit. It means nothing. That is $41 billion being spent. It doesn't mean our air is cleaner, our traffic runs more smoothly or the average accounting clerk in town is earning more money or is happier.

Re: “Besides Nor'wood, one other 'entity' submitted an undocumented bid for downtown land

Afraid Jim Mullen is telling it like it is.

Re: “KCMJ cuts, hunting and fishing license fees, handicap parking, and more

So many have been asking me what happened at KCMJ, I finally decided the story must be told. Here is what I know: http://www.mycoloradogazette.com/profiles/…

Re: “KCMJ cuts, hunting and fishing license fees, handicap parking, and more

Ryan Hannigan wrote "It seems like many of the local live shows have been "stolen" by some other entity." I believe that is a reference to the new Studio 809 podcast network several former KCMJ hosts/volunteers have launched (myself included). We are not encouraging any shows to leave KCMJ. However, we are providing a warm, positive, nurturing environment for any shows that no longer feel they can make it work at KCMJ. I personally hope they are all back on KCMJ one day. The existence of Studio 809 is not a cause of what Gary wrote about. It's a symptom.

Re: “Too far to the left

We love KRCC, but we are committed to filling the void. The voices that conservative corporate media shut out, KCMJ will offer a microphone. Any voices that KRCC cannot carry, KCMJ will step up. KRCC will continue to serve a very important purpose and provide real value in our community. But it seems if you want to hear something like Democracy Now, you'll need to turn to KCMJ. We are also running Talk Nation Radio, Alternative Radio, Bioneers, Counterspin, Radio Ecoshock, Free Speech Radio News and Community Progressive News. What can I say? Thank goodness!

Re: “Springs and Comcast look at a new 10-year agreement

Thanks for the lowdown on this, Pam Zubeck. We'll be discussing the Comcast franchise agreement live on We Have Issues today on community radio station KCMJ. You can listen at kcmj.org and you can call in at 722-3180.

Re: “A challenge to young professionals

You can be pessimistic about it, as some commenters here suggest, or you can hope for the best. Two good things can happen here:

1. Informed people who are too busy or are disenchanted and think their vote might not count could be motivated to give it a go.

2.People who want to go party may put voting on their to-do list and decide they'd better study up. Sometimes we can harness peer pressure for good.

Will a few dazed and confused just fill out a ballot mindlessly so they can get cheaper drinks at a party? Perhaps. Not sure their random influence could be much worse than the mindless party-line voting that goes on all the time.
