Day of Rememberance

When: Sun., Sept. 11, 8 a.m. 2011

Beyond the FAC showing Lovers Leapt (see "Come together"), the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 will be widely recognized today. Visitors to the 8 a.m. Day of Remembrance event at America the Beautiful Park (126 Cimino Drive) will get a flyover from the Colorado Air National Guard, live music, and remarks from former Gov. Bill Ritter and others. Near the Manitou Springs Community Garden (across U.S. Highway 24 from Cave of the Winds), artist SPIKA has organized an installation of 2,753 black paper cranes to honor terror attack victims. It'll start at 1, and coincide with the garden's second anniversary party. And at World Arena (3185 Venetucci Blvd.,, "Faces of Freedom" brings musicians like Darden Smith and Radney Foster (see here), plus video presentations and a chance to honor service members. — Kirk Woundy
