Re: “Helen Collins' ethics hearing opens

Been following the Collins affair since they tried to recall her, and I have some nagging questions. Firstly who put up all the money to recall her? Who paid for Government watch, sure seems like they did not want to be identified. Imagine that is also legal and there is no way to find that out? I am curious as it would help me to maybe then understand the reason why it was done. So why was all that money and effort put into trying to remove her? Plenty of reporting was done on this but the basic who and why was never answered properly, that I could see. Her own constituents did not want her removed, does that not seem immensely strange? I remember the reasons given by the organization formed to get her, rang false and phony in my head. That's what peaked my interest in the whole affair, set off my BS alarm real hard. I have never met Collins and have no interest in her case, except that it seems such a dirty, well financed, and ruthless attack upon her. Like to know who wants her head on a stick so bad, she appears quite harmless.

Saw in the Independent that we are paying the HO Boland $3,000 a day to hear the case. Can this be right? Seems like a large daily sum of money we are paying him, how does one get in line for that job? Seriously who does decide Colorado Springs has to have this 3K a day whizz bang of a judge? Must be a very long list of lawyers and judges that would love to pull down this job. How does this guy get picked, as the lottery winner? Then HO Boland needs 2 weeks to prepare a transcript? Seems like a job done in a couple hours, at most. Then again why would a guy making 3K a day, not want to take his sweet time, make sure he gets it right! I imagine it just business as usual between the city and attorneys, but it leaves me feeling dirty and seriously ripped off. We have to raise our taxes to fill our potholes but we have plenty of money to throw at guys like this? Guess so. Anyways hopefully someone can at least help me really understand the who and why of the first paragraph. Just a curious and pissed tax payer wanting to know what is really going on. Derek Aker

Re: “UPDATED: Gazette employees reportedly could be fired for commenting on marijuana stories

Great work Bryce.

How about getting a print story put together for next week? There is a lot going on in this story. Who and why hand picked a non Gazette reporter to write up their propaganda series? Especially one so obviously highly biased as Christine Tatum? Since when do members of the editorial board decide to take a stab at being REAL journalists? Passing off a bloated and completely biased editorial as real news or even real Journalism? This is yellow journalism at its worse. No journalistic ethics what so ever.

Things were not always as such in the Gazette. Many REAL Gazette reporters did excellent articles on Marijuana and amend 64, before Mr Anscutz bought himself the paper. I know, I read everyone of them, close and hard. It was REAL journalism, showing in an unbiased manor the different sides of the issue. You know, the basic principles of journalism. This Haze series had none of this- None.

I have been a subscriber to the Gazette for 18 years, read it everyday, so I have a bit of a educated perspective. I have seen this marijuana offensive attack coming for months in the editorial page and slant of the articles. The powers that be at the Gazette have gone to far for me to be able to stomach it anymore. Its an issue of Journalistic integrity and I find them no longer trustable. Hurts me greatly, it really does. I see no recourse but to resign my subscription to them and I shall be doing that.

Re: “Is the Gazette's new marijuana series a joke?

Unreal, what a dirty nasty affair, yellow journalism is alive and well. I guess when you own the paper like Mr Anschutz, you can pay to have written whatever you wish. Whats sad is it is so poorly done, so obvious the fix is in. Slanted Editorial board sell out flunkies as facts and news. Then they pay a non Gazette reporter to write it up, in such a obviously slanted manner. The Gazette and its reporters did fantastic reporting on marijuana, very fair and balanced as they like to say. Then Anschutz bought it and that kind of reporting was over. Then you get the yellow journalism. I have subscribed to the Gazette for years, as their reporters DO good work, but that has all changed. Mrs Tatum is NOT a Gazette reporter, she was brought in for this hit piece. I can no longer stomach helping to pay the salaries of these people, to propagandize me. I will be telling the Gazette to end our relationship, and it hurts me to do so. I strongly support journalism but the Gazette isn't doing much of that with pieces like this.
