Re: “Letters

Being called and actually being a jerkoff is too much for the simplistic and delicate sensibilities of Linda F from Fountain.
State law allows a bicyclist to take over the lane if doing so is safer than trying to ride in the gutter to accommodate road hazards or a driver that cannot be bothered to look ahead and react accordingly. Or a driver that may be terribly burdened a few seconds on the way to the mall by someone that goes slower than the speed limit. So menace that person with your far greater weight of your gas guzzling conveyance. Be sure to menace any other automobile that for whatever reason might not do the speed limit. Feel free to run over any of those pesky pedestrians too, if they inconvenience you in any way. All travel at all times must be in a gas guzzling automobile. It would be un-American to do otherwise. BP and our Saudi ‘allies’ thank you!
There are already plenty of taxes on those that do not drive to pay for roads. Your gas tax does not cover the many billions from the feds for highways or the local snow plow and maintenance crews or mid-east oil wars and so many other ways you are subsidized and encouraged to continue your oil addiction that trashes the planet for all of us. With your menacing and simplistic reasoning, there is no place for bicyclists on any roads anywhere in this country.
Just don’t bitch if some Hummer (with yellow ribbons and flag stickers of course) rides your ass and maybe rear ends you, because you are “pretty stupid” and did not keep up with what he thought should be the “speed of traffic”. “you are guaranteed to lose that confrontation”, so you must be “pretty stupid”.
Springs has many fine bike paths paid for by a tax on bikes (oh the horror!). Why not try enjoying some fresh air, nature and a little bit of relaxing exercise? We still need to use “our” roads at times though, despite the hazards of menacing oil addicts like you.
