"Devotional Art in the Southwest from Historical Roots to Contemporary Practices"

a lecture from Gustavo Victor Goler, a santero (one who makes religious works of art in the southwestern U.S. and central America) and santero researcher, who will share his studies on this practice, as well as his research into saints and their iconography. Following that, Goler will hold a gallery talk on santeros with Devaka Premawardhana, a scholar-in-residence at CC's department of religion in the I.D.E.A. Space. On Feb. 18 at 3:30 p.m., Goler will demonstrate his process of carving his devotional pieces and cover his sources of inspiration, tools and techniques.
