Re: “Council adopts RV parking ban

@nimbymcsuede-There is no one solution to this problem, but there could be some creative ones in the meantime. Say you live in an RV and you need to dump your waste, how do you do it if you are so down & out you're reduced to live in an RV? There is no way, so what do you do? These are the kind of things we need to address, not create new ways to penalize people already down. Seems many people just think we can chase them away or jail them and the problem will go away. Only problem with that is they'll be replaced by folks chased out of a neighboring town. We need to be smarter. Penalizing them is just lazy.

Re: “Council adopts RV parking ban

@Spartan771-"these people" in many instances were the "others". All it takes is a layoff/downsizing, a medical crisis, a mental illness/addiction or any number of life events to leave the land of others and become homeless. It sounds like fortunately you nor anyone you know is homeless, but it could happen far more easily than you seem to think. Until we have a humane solution, shutting up is not an option.

Re: “Council adopts RV parking ban

The city can just keep pushing the homeless from place to place, but that will never help the problem. Why do we insist on spending so much time and energy, not to mention money, trying to avoid the problem and not trying to fix the cause? Rhetorical, I know. I know that our city government could do many things to provide more affordable housing so that homeless people of all means could have a path out. If a city can give all manner of incentives to businesses wishing to locate here, why can't they use that same power to help people already here? Give the people a place to park overnight instead of forcing them to play hopscotch with law enforcement. We all know there are empty parking lots galore, all over town, that could be utilized, on a law abiding basis. Most are still well lit and accessible. It's not a perfect solution, but much better than fining people for just trying to live. Where are the creative problem solvers in our city government?

Re: “Springs announces Homelessness Action Plan

Nice to see something somewhat concrete is happening.
So much lip service and still no affordable housing.
I do like most all of the plan, though.
Now for the action.

Re: “Reader: Bike lanes equal less traffic, and it's working

This is just the traffic version of NIMBY.
Yes, traffic has moved - from Cascade to Nevada, which has had its speed limit reduced along the stretch mirroring the bike lanes on Cascade. If this is how the neighborhood wants it, and can get council to agree, then I suggest that all bike traffic be banned on Nevada and rerouted to Cascade.
As a person who is forced to drive in this area while doing my job, I think that would make everyone safer and happier. I'd gladly trade not being able to use Cascade for work, if I could safely negotiate Nevada without bikes.

Re: “Plan to demo two homes to make way for apartments is sign of the times

Four units out of 17 is laughable, unless you're looking for affordable housing and then it's so very discouraging.

Demolishing old homes like those in the story should be done very judiciously. You can't get them back once you destroy them. I hope the neighborhood is able to come to a conclusion that everyone can work with.
