Re: “Plan to demo two homes to make way for apartments is sign of the times

Four units out of 17 is laughable, unless you're looking for affordable housing and then it's so very discouraging.

Demolishing old homes like those in the story should be done very judiciously. You can't get them back once you destroy them. I hope the neighborhood is able to come to a conclusion that everyone can work with.

Re: “Colorado Sports and Events Center stadium, arena to host Switchbacks, Colorado College hockey downtown

Sounds like a lot of hard work went into pulling all the entities together and I, for one, would like to see people get behind this as a positive step forward for Colorado Springs. We have to think like a vibrant, growing community to be one.

Now if we could do something significant about affordable housing, that would be swell.

Hey Pam, slide into this century with me and get on the women's baseball wagon - https://www.usabaseball.com/team-usa/women…

Have to agree those are some pitiful names, none of which I would wear on a t-shirt..or eat at the concession stand.

Re: “The case for a higher minimum wage

Actually Jenna, if you think the people who voted for the minimum wage increase aren't affected by the cost of living I would say it's you who have no idea what that has already done to the local economy. It's always a balancing act for employers and sometimes it needs a kick in the pants to keep pace with the needs of the employees. Small business owners will adapt & survive or they won't. I think the majority will survive. I think the majority of employees will also survive. That neither will is always the argument and it usually doesn't pan out that way.

Re: “The case for a higher minimum wage

To people who make a living wage, or more, this seems like so much whining, but to those working full-time, and more, who can't afford a place to live, this is about survival. The biggest thing Colorado can do to fix that is figure out how to slow down the rise in housing costs. People only want to be able to live not get rich.

To Mikeb45 - The federal minimum wage of $7.25 hasn't risen since 2009, so any increase by the states during this time is the result of what the labor market needs. Inflation in Colorado is much higher than the national average, I'll give you that, but while they figure out how to lower it people have to be able to have a roof and eat. You either pay that in wages or in public assistance. I'd argue that paying a higher wage is a much better use of my dollars. Sure some businesses will not be able to adjust because they operate on a very small margin, and some people will lose their jobs, but the numbers will be small compared to the number of people this increase will help.
