Humans have found many a way to romance our fellow guys, gals and nonbinary pals. Some people play music. Robin Williams’ character in Dead Poets Society preferred the written and spoken word. But that old proverb about how the quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach sticks around, and it’s not without reason. Different folks have different strokes, sure, but everybody eats, so chops in the kitchen are a great way to impress a romantic interest. Maybe that means preparing a meal that wows your date with flavor and presentation, or maybe that just means the meal says “If we move in together, we don’t have to order out every night.”

To give our readers a leg up on that front, the Indy asked eight area chefs to share their favorite recipes for impressing a date, which range from bougie brunches to decadent desserts. Try them out. And if your kitchen catches fire, maybe drop by one of the participating restaurants and see how the pros do it.
