Cheyenne Mountain State Park has announced the grand opening ceremony for the newly-opened Dixon Trail that goes to the top of Cheyenne Mountain. The event will be held Friday, October 26th, at 10am at the Limekiln Trailhead (the big parking lot after the visitors center). As a bonus, entrance fees for the park will be waived for the day.

In the meantime, the annual Cheyenne Mountain Trail Run half-marathon, which includes runners using the Dixon trail to race to the top of the peak and back, will be held this Saturday, October 20th. To make room for participants, all trails that start at the Limekiln Trailhead, which is the majority of trails in the park, will be closed for the day.
Sticking with the Cheyenne theme, the Friends of Cheyenne Cañon, one of the oldest park friends groups in the Springs, will be holding its annual Canya Canon run/walk event on Tuesday, November 6th. The event, which benefits FoCC, gives participants the opportunity to attend it as a timed race or a family walk, or something in between, features both 5K and 5-mile routes.

And finally, among the many issues that affect how we choose to vote, outdoor recreation and land conservation are important to many Coloradans. With midterm elections only weeks away, the Outdoor Industry Association has developed a "Vote Outdoors" campaign and put together a voters guide for key races nationwide that could affect outdoor recreation, several of which are here in Colorado.

Happy Trails!
