A couple of weeks ago I got a phone call from Bruno. He wanted me to photograph his proposal to his girlfriend Brittany. He planned the proposal with the help of a good friend and decided to pop the question at The Broadmoor, a place they both love to visit.

I worked with Bruno’s friend beforehand to stake out the location: a favorite bench on the west side of the resort’s lake.

We left a bouquet of flowers and a candy ring on the bench for the Bruno and Brittany to "discover" as they strolled around the lake. Then we waited on a patio nearby that was concealed by a stand of trees.

A short while later, Bruno and Brittany reached the bench and Bruno grabbed the candy ring and got down on one knee to propose. I walked out towards them and began photographing them with a long lens from a distance as the proposal ensued.

Brittany's initial expression of surprise was followed quickly by pure joy and happiness. Bruno then showed her the real engagement ring and Brittany’s expressions lit up even more.

For a moment they were lost in their own world and barely noticed a crowd had gathered not far from them. As they embraced, the onlookers offered a round of applause.

Photographing a moment such as this is a wonderful part of my job, but I don’t get to do it often. Small suggestion: If you want to begin a life together, do it right and make sure to have someone there to capture this moment.

Here are some pictures from Bruno’s proposal to Brittany to help inspire you if you’re thinking about popping the question.
