Re: “Western Museum cuts ties with Haunted Mines after 10 years

Having read this article several times through, I can say that I am disappointed in the Independent for not doing a bit more research. I was a very involved volunteer at WMMI and the Haunted Mines for quite sometime, and was witness to the degradation that was created by Angel's 'leadership'. Once she became the Executive Director, relations between Haunted Mines and the WMMI board became extremely stressed. Internal to the Haunt, her new management team cleaned out any of the volunteers that did not agree with her new, corrosive management of the organization. One of those forced out was a man who helped to create the haunt, both fiscally (he was one of the three that bank-rolled the first year) and with years of work. On the museum side, she was extremely arrogant and aggressive at every interaction. From the beginning, the understanding was one of a lease of the property. Angel and her team began to act extremely entitled towards the property. As this lack of professionalism came to light, the board at WMMI made sure their ducks were in a row, to allow a quick dissolution of the contract. It appears that they waited two years to enact this change, to allow for realignment of the Haunted Mines to the productive and friendly organization it had been. Obviously this realignment failed to happen and the museum chose to separate itself from the haunt. I would like to state that I have been absent from the museum for over a year now, and have no desire to defend them. This comment is just help the Independent to maintain truthful reporting.
