Re: “Our view: El Paso County sheriff

You saw no use of a cell phone at the debate. I did clearly, where were you sitting?Must have been on the side Maketa was on so you couldn't see it. He pulled it out of his front shirt pocket then would slip it back in about 4-5 times during the debate. As he pulled it out the guy in the back, I believe was Kyle Fisk his campaign spokesperson, who Shirk pays a great deal of money to per the fiscal report would then pull his phone out, and as he put it away, amazingly Shirk would grab his. Common sense only tells me that they were communicating on what Shirk should do or say, as then shirk would write down comments on his paper . Maybe next time we should sit near one another so no tales are crossed and we can see what eachother see.

Re: “Our view: El Paso County sheriff

Oneida1520- Please, what is your beef with Maketa? Can't you post why you support "chief jake shirk" without bringing up the nonsense of 'character and integrity' every time? You sound like he does when he talks. Stating the scripted same response and comment time and time again. Ocassionally throwing in an extra bit of attack. You seem obsessive with it over the last few months. I have seen Shirk breaking laws left and right living up in Monument. At the parade not much cheering for that fool in his how turf! You seem just as obsessed with the Sheriff as the Indy. Oh what will you dream about and grind your gears on come August 11th? poor bitter person you are. Get a life and move on with it!

Re: “UPDATE, 7/9: Sheriff's race in full swing

Code 7,

You asked me to elaborate on the comment I made. And not throwing stones at either candidate, the issues where he has said two contradictory statements between the woodmoor meeting and the one Thursday is this: Shirk stated in woodmoor as he has for months that in 18 months he wanted to CIVILIANIZE the jail. Thursday he said, not remove deputies from it, it would be a process he would have to look into as people retired. He previously said in woodmoor that he would get rid of the undersheriff, thursday he informed everyone it is mandated, as bloggers informed people on here, and said he would reduce pay, not knowing it is set by standards as to what other undersheriffs are paid as Maketa borught up.. (this makes me wonder what he will tell the people the next time, as he seems to change his thoughts just slightly.) He seems to change answers each time, little bits. I remember him saying at the woodmoor one that he had to CORA the budget, Thursday he said he got it off the elpasoco.com website after Maketa discussed where it was. I find this all hard to take. As for maketa, I see him with passion now. He has been walking neighborhoods, came to mine. Maketa has shown me although he pulled out initially, that the people he said came to him, rejuvinated him, it apparently gave him the passion to continue to serve. he said he has the energy and passion again, he said Thursday that he is here for the next 4 years. I believe him, I have to say if he has endured all the slander on this blogging site, he is dedicated, most would step down to get out of it all, he has stuck it though and shown many that he is here to stay. That is how I look at it.

Re: “UPDATE, 7/9: Sheriff's race in full swing

Avarage citizen,
You bring up the issue of compassion. The very sheriff you say is not compassionate stood at that debate, as I was there and said that the reason he has given people second chances after mistakes is that he believes it is a mistake. Not many large entity bosses will give that 'compassion'. Shirk on the other hand, says he will look at everyones files and shows no compassion of looking at the big picture. The last 2 times Shirk has spoke he has changed strories and lied to the community on various aspects. I have followed this race and what I see is Maketa standing tall telling what he has done, and Shirk hiding, telling people what they want to hear and as I see it capitalizing on irrelivent topics Ms Zubeck writes. I was at that forum/debate and say him (Shirk) change numerous answers from the last forum in Monument. Where I agree with the deputy who wrote above is that shirk some day may be ready but not now, right now he needs leadership experience, national and governemnt involvment experience. He was clueless on issues at the state level when asked (tabor) and needs to learn. Maketa knows what has to be done, he has been doing it, he is good at it. It is evident in the fact that even on here a deputy comes forth and states Maketa has his vote. Maketa is very passionate towards work. He has lived it. He stepped into the race and said he intends on continuing the good for the office and the citizens, Shirk says he has plans but no plan to carry out the plan. I am scared to see what will happen to the sheriffs office if shirk gets in and looses the credentials the jail and patrol have by removing valuable assets from the places that are running great how they are. Pueblo jail has people escaping, riots in other counties, here in El Paso county, Maketas jail holds them in, and because of the stuff he has in place, I feel safe living here. My vote is for Maketa.
