The Parkside HOA and its Manager Mr. Fowler do seem a bit shady. If the HOA had voted in the past to "self-insure," why did Mr. Fowler feel the need to lie on several occasions, regarding the HOA's insurance policy? And why was that vote never shared with residents? If the HOA's Insurance Broker claimed that certain common areas are "un-insurable," there should be a record of that.
This is a very difficult time for those residents, but based on this article, all I see is an HOA trying to cover its a$$ and a resident being treated poorly because he is asking questions the HOA was not prepared to or didn't want to answer. I think Mr. Rector is smart to bring these issues up before residents begin paying (or being charged) to fix "common areas" that are the HOA's responsibility according to the covenants.
