Evangelicals' gift to the Earth

The evangelical movement brings not only huge numbers (quite possibly the critical mass needed) and a new energy to this crucial [environmental] cause, but also a moral message and a storytelling ability that will reach the millions who won't watch a documentary or read an environmental report.

Progressives are good at facts and bring a surfeit of sincerity to any issue, but too often we fail to recognize the essential role that imagery plays in politics. As our friend Van Jones likes to remind us, Reverend Martin Luther King didn't stand at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963 and say to the masses gathered there, "I have a ... position paper."

No, he had a dream, a vision! And he proceeded to tell us the vivid story of that dream lacing the story with rich biblical imagery, by the way.
