Re: “Makepeace mulls a mayoral run

Maybe Ms. Makepeace should have a few drinks and go for a drive with some kids in the car before deciding on her next move. Oh, that's right, she's already been down the DUI road before: http://gazette.com/some-question-police-ha…. But Colorado Springs shouldn't be deprived of a leader of Ms. Makepeace's caliber just because of a little buzzed driving. I'm sure many denizens of this drunken little backwater can relate to her behavior.

Re: “Drink, drank ... drunk?

The quickest, easiest option for dealing with Mr. Newsome is to file a complaint with the Colorado Supreme Court Attorney Regulation Counsel http://www.coloradosupremecourt.com/Regulation/Regulation.asp). It is a relatively simple process that can be done over the telephone. The ARC has dealt with more than a few alcoholic/drug-addicted attorneys and they have the ability to make continued licensure as an attorney contingent on successful substance abuse treatment. His elected status (and hubris) notwithstanding, Mr. Newsome is not above the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct.

Re: “Back into the sky

The city could generate a great deal of much needed revenue if it had an aggressive driver enforcement unit - two-person undercover patrols that would drive around town videotaping aggressive drivers for the purposes of subsequent prosecution (with hefty fines for violators). Given the widespread prevalence of aggressive driving in Colorado Springs, this unit would pay for itself in no time, generate much needed capital, and make our streets safer.

Re: “Not as bad as it looks

Council and former City Manager Lorne Kramer made a wise choice in Chief Myers. The Chief is an innovator with an eye toward the future - two things that don't sit well with the CSPD good ole boy network. There are folks there that have been waiting to be chief for years, and here comes this upstart outsider saying, I have ideas for making this Department more efficient and effective. Heresy! Hang in there, Chief. You're the best thing to happen to CSPD in a long time.
