Re: “Utilities unveils plan for Pikes Peak access

In Colorado Springs we are fortunate to have the United States Olympic Training Center, The Rodeo Hall of Fame, and a group you may not know of The United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association. The USHPA is worldwide organization that sets guidelines for safe and skilled unpowered flight. Those of you that have seen paragliders grace the skies can attest to the beauty of watching these silent craft floating on a breath of air. Weighing only a few pounds and made completely of parachute type material a paraglider can be folded and placed in a 1x3 foot bag to carry to your launch site. Because of the terrain here our wind blows predominately from the south and thus makes flying the mountains impossible most of the time. A south facing launch however would allow free flight on a consistent basis here in our wonderful city. Point of the Mountain in Salt Lake City, Utah utilized very forward thinking making a gorgeous flight park at Point of the Mountain. The city has embraced paragliding and you can see these graceful and colorful paragliders gracing the sky. I believe it would be beneficial for Colorado Springs to add to the already wonderful culture of this unique city and embrace the idea of free flight from the the south side. We have the best Balloon festival in the country so free flight is not foreign to this city and forward thinking is also not a novel idea here. Most of us have to travel to Golden Colorado to free fly. This location directly next to the School of Mines has been operational for years and has according to those in the community enhanced the area. I am sure the city would enjoy being able to watch such an activity the blends perfectly with the natural beauty of the area, and impacts nothing. Paragliders are as a group very nature oriented and maintain the sites they fly. Thank You for your consideration and I would be happy to answer any questions you may have so that you may fully evaluate possible options.
