Re: “The ramrod of Cripple Creek

I am glad to see the Mayor fighting the smoking ban. Stephanie Steinberg and our Government Officials did not think through the economic impact of the Smoking Ban. I believe they used the general population smoking percentages of 80% non-smokers and 20% Smokers....and they believed the 80% non-smokers would cover the Smokers that stopped or reduced trips to the Casinos. I believe the Casino Smoking population is closer to 40%. I have seen articles where Casino Managers believe it is closer to 60% to 70% Smokers. I have player the high end Slot rooms where it has often been 80% to 95% Smokers....and these VIPs are the ones that make up a big percentage of the Casinos profits. Stephanie and crew mis-calculated how many Casino patrons would be very upset by the Smoking ban. Bottom line is I think it is sad when Freedom and Choice are limited by Government.....especially when I think the free market system would have taken care of the smoking issue over the next couple years. I believe the Casinos would have had Smoking and Non-Smoking sections to match their customer base. This way everyone has a choice and the Casino has an opportunity to maximize their profits.
