Re: “Sunblock for SunShare

That sound you heard was my head slamming into my desk. Once again the narrow minded City Council, with support from the 'taxpayers' has done its level best to return to our old 'biggest small town in America' image. Here was a chance to be a national leader, to develop something new and exciting, attract young entrepreneurs to our community, and what does Council do? Jerk the rug out from under them.

Until the people of this city start thinking like they live in a city we will continue to be treated as a small town with delusions of grandeur. Where the promising young people flee and successful companies map their exit to friendlier climes.

Re: “Kum & Go vs. Old Colorado City history

Here is my question for those who oppose the Kum & Go: What should go into that building?

This is not a historic old Victorian building with a classic facade, it is an old factory/warehouse. There is no parking for any reasonable sized business (Ever tried to park in the 'parking area' for the Goodwill across the street?)

With the number of current vacancies in smaller locations in OCC it is not like this is a thriving area with vast amounts of foot traffic.

Granted, having a gas station move in across the alley from your house sucks (I back up to one, with an accompanying strip mall to boot). But if Goodwill doesn't sell now, what will come of this location? What happens when they leave the building for good? When the homeless, vagrants and drug dealers figure out how to break in and treat it accordingly?

I love OCC, I wish nothing but the best for it, I run through it almost every morning. But when it comes to some inherent beauty, does no one else notice the large white wall in the middle of the area? That isn't some classic Victorian facade. But at least it is a viable business. And when it comes down to it, we need more of those in this area to pay the taxes etc that our city so desperately needs.
