Re: “My crazy brother

Stunningly familiar story although my child only has rare and mild psychotic episodes. Nevertheless his brilliant future career as a classical musician and composer is forever gone. As his IQ is sky high he is tortured by the fact he cannot graduate from college nor make a living. His family is tortured as well by his moodiness and unpredictability and failure in life. We live in fear he might harm himself. He recognized the need for help as a young college student, but the societal stigma prevented him from facing his illness and getting help. Ohio, supposedly one of the best states for the mentally ill as rated by NAMI now has a democratic governor, Ted Strickland, who shockingly line item vetoed availability to people on public assistance the mental health medications they need. I too am a one issue voter- Universal Health Care WITH PARITY FOR MENTAL ILLNESS. Thank you for this gut wrenching, well written and all too familiar story.
