Frozen Gold puts a little boogie in their soft serve

Denver-based Atomic Provisions culinary enterprise took its first step into desserts in the Springs, opening Frozen Gold, a spot dedicated to eye-catching and decadent soft serve creations. We’re told their soft serve has less overrun — added air to make it fluffier — and more butterfat than typical corporate chain offerings. There’s no comparing; theirs comes out richer, denser and silkier. We try the on-trend Silly Rabbit ($4.95/small), which has vanilla soft serve rolled in Trix cereal and filled with a Frozen Gold signature “core,” a little extra sugary joy injected into the middle of the ice cream. For the Silly Rabbit, it’s cereal milk. The resulting effect pops like childhood breakfast; frankly, kids’ breakfast cereal fits better as dessert anyway. We also enjoy a vegan Samoa Samoa ($4.95/small), which uses coconut cream ice cream that’s just as good as their dairy offerings, for which one lactose-sensitive food reviewer’s grateful. Salted caramel, dried coconut and hot fudge only make it more indulgent.
