Re: “AFA stirs more religion debate

Mr K, you have given me considerable amount of insight into what fuels the MRFF. And so I would want to firstly,as a Christian myself, apologize to any and everyone who has felt as though they have had Christian beliefs forced upon them. This is clearly NOT the true teachings of Christ, which could be summed up in love, mercy and grace. If we look at the life of Christ,we see there are times when Jesus was in the face of people, speaking harsh words, but these words were spoken to the religious leaders of the time who were oppressing the common people with their rule and regulations. But to the common people He always spoke with love and compassion with restoration as the goal.

As I look back over church history, I wonder if the Christian church has not become what we had tried to escape from. Many early Christians came to this country to escape religious/government oppression,in search of freedom to worship in whatever way they chose. So separation of church and state and religious freedom where paramount in the founding of our country. These important issues ensured that the government would not control the church nor the church control the government, each a separate entity, each being lead by the integrity of its leadership and each honoring the freedom of the other.

As much as this country has tried, you CAN NOT legislate morality. You can't force people to be moral. That is something that comes from the integrity of each person, and for the Christian, morality comes from the Bible. Now, we must have laws. If not our country would be chaos, murder, theft, rape and the like would be out of control. But there has to be a line somewhere. And therein lies the problem, where to draw the line.

Many Christians point to the removal of prayer from the public schools as the point at which this country began it's moral downturn. But I think it was choice of parents who did not value prayer in the home enough to pray with and for their children, their children's teachers and government leaders. I have said before you can't legislate morality, but you most certainly CAN teach it and the best way the teach it is by example. Don't do as I say do as I do.

Re: “AFA stirs more religion debate

I am amazed how weak and spineless the anti christian people are. So easily offended by a scripture or a prayer. What are you so afraid of. Can't you just ignore it. Are you afraid of the truth it carries? You see something and it seems like your horrified by it so you cry foul, and try to get it removed. Think about it, isn't freedom of speech for everyone. So why is it the anti christian can be so verbal and force their will upon the Christian? Isn't freedom of speech the ability to voice your opinion with fear of retaliation and simply agree to disagree. Why is it so necessary to force your will upon others. If the scripture on the cadet's door offends you then DON'T LOOK AT IT. Or is asking you to honor another person right to express themselves to much to ask. It seems like you expect or maybe I should say "DEMAND" that from others who don't share your view.
