Much can be said about a bar with its own sizable menu of shooters and pint-glass margaritas, especially one decorated with pleasant dark woods and a fireplace. But it’s good to know this bar and its military-heavy clientele aren’t stuck with booze and wings — one can drop by for a sandwich and a beer at lunch and get sound service and reasonable eats all the same.

As defined by Blondie protagonist Dagwood Bumstead, a Dagwood sandwich ($9.59) should have multiple layers. So while this roast beef hoagie doesn’t earn its name, it’s still good, with quality roast beef making nice with pickles, red onions and horseradish cream sauce. Paired with a decent portion of seasoned waffle fries, it’s a wholly respectable bite. It does well with a 15.2-ounce bottle of Grolsch ($5.50), a Dutch lager most notable for coming in a nifty swingtop bottle. Eat, drink and ponder exactly how one might construct a double-decker hoagie; I’m stumped.
