Re: “UPDATE: Air Force called out for homophobic link

The simple fact of the matter here is that the Chaplaincy at USAFA, knowing full well that their audience is captive and will likely look further into any website they link to, on the off chance that someone in their chain will ask about it, linked to an extremely POOR choice of website. It is proof of not only their ignorance, but their willful disregard for their minority charges, that they would choose a website that is run by a layperson and that, with only a minimum amount of digging, espouses a view that is, in fact, counter to both the current trend in the military of acceptance of all its members and the Commander-in-Chief's charge that they continue and improve on that acceptance.

Basically, someone in the chaplain corp was either a royal idiot or trying to be a subtle bigot. Either way, the link needs to be retracted and a formal apology provided.

Re: “UPDATE (No. 2): Academy dean of faculty to retire

SteveP: InĀ 2012, there simply isn't a problem. I'm agnostic and so is my son. He is at the Academy and he feels ZERO pressure to conform to any religion. You continue to beat a dead horse. Same goes for this author at the Indy. She seemingly publishes 1/10th of her articles on the Academy. She too should move on more productive topics. I'm just say'in...

Have you ever been robbed, Steve? If not, does that mean it doesn't happen? There are 372 MRFF clients at USAFA. Just because it's not your soon, that you know Oooooof, doesn't mean is not happening.

Just saying...

Re: “UPDATE (No. 2): Academy dean of faculty to retire

Once again, we seem to have a tale of two Academies. We have the Academy that exists in Colorado Springs and takes on the 'traits' of its host city, a mile high place of beauty and exceptionalism where we are grooming the leaders of tomorrow. And we have the Academy that exists in the rest of the world, that of a bastion of Religious Dominionism that does not prepare anyone for the reality of the rest of the world, instead convincing its cadets that women are second class citizens to be used and that men are to be Jesus's army in the coming apocalypse.

Born is just another symptom of the problem that is the real USAFA, the Academy that the rest of the world sees. By her own actions, she made clear that she did not value her own integrity. By her own actions, she made clear that her priority was her religion over her duty and her country. By her own actions, she jeopardized the very core of what USAFA SHOULD stand for.

USAFA is well to be rid of her. USAFA would be well to be rid of Gould too. One step at a time, however. The best way for the Academy to begin to fix its ills would be to install a civilian into Born's position. Remove the pressures of an unstable chain of command and actually focus on the cadet wing's education, that would be a step in the right direction toward returning USAFA to its former glory.

Enough of playing at being educated. For what we taxpayers pay for a single cadet, they should be some of the most highly educated, highly critical thinking people in the free world. They should not be religious sheep, marching to the drum of an extreme faction of just one of many religions in the world.

Good bye, BGen. Born. We, the critical thinking citizens of Colorado Springs will not miss you.

Re: “AFA explores religious respect

Clearly, it is time for a vocab lesson.

Fascism: a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

Liberalism: a political or social philosophy advocating the freedom of the individual, parliamentary systems of government, nonviolent modification of political, social, or economic institutions to assure unrestricted development in all spheres of human endeavor, and governmental guarantees of individual rights and civil liberties.

Yeah, not the same thing at all.

Re: “AFA explores religious respect

First, as the organizer for Mr. Weinstein's talk at UCCS on Oct. 24th, which was attended by both officer and enlisted members of all our armed forces, I find the exemption of members of the secular community to be both ridiculous and blatantly biased. It is not as if Mr. Weinstein was not already in town and could not have stayed to take part in this 'Respect' conference.

Second, as an atheist and secular member of the community of Colorado Springs, I find the entire idea of a conference on religious respect completely excluding between 15% and 40% of the population (depending on the poll you read) who claim none as their religion to be the epitome of nonrespect. It is as though the organizers are following the idea that if they cannot see something, it does not exist. Which is, on its own, rather silly, given that they are unable to see God. Or the air.

Just because you cannot see it does not mean that it doesn't exist. There is evidence that there are atheist, agnostics, secularists, humanists, and jedis in the military. There is evidence that they have voices which deserve to be heard. There is evidence that they are being silenced.

This is not a conference on religious respect. It is an exclusionary circle jerk of the highest order and it is being paraded around as though it will solve all things at USAFA. Just because you invite your token rep from the ACLU does not make you inclusive.

It makes you a hypocrite.
