Hellyeah still super after all these years

All “supergroups” are created equal, but some are more equal than others. In a hype-driven society where we use the term as casually as we do “legendary,” the one-time touring drummer for Avenged Sevenfold could theoretically put together a trio with two other guys you’ve never heard of and claim the mantle for themselves. By those standards, Hellyeah are a supergroup of legendary proportions. The Illinois-based heavy-metal congregation features Mudvayne co-founding frontman Chad Gray and Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, plus three, um, other guys. Last year’s Undeniable cracked the Billboard Top 20, as did the band’s four previous albums. It also includes a cover of Phil Collins’ “I Don’t Care Anymore” that features Vinnie’s late brother, the even more legendary Dimebag Darrell, whose guitar riffs and solo originally appeared on a demo version the two recorded a decade earlier. Perhaps needless to say, Dimebag will not be joining Hellyeah on the road, but crowd-pleasers like “Alcohaulin’ Ass” and “Drink Drank Drunk” are bound to make this all-ages show fun for the whole family.
