Henri's, Jorge-style

Culinary crumbs and gastronomic gossip

Jorge Ayala, who has been serving popular Mexican dishes at Jorge's in Pueblo since 1982, has opened Henri's by Jorge at 2427 W. Colorado Ave. in Old Colorado City. The new restaurant replaces Henri's Mexican Food, which closed last winter after a 60-year run.

"We've brought all our recipes from Pueblo," says manager Jennifer Davidson. "The menu is completely different from what it was [at Henri's]. We've brought our Pueblo cooks, so everything here is exactly as it is in Pueblo."

The restaurant has been remodeled for a fresher look, although tiles and murals remain.

Davidson says the green chiles from Southern Colorado farms distinguish Jorge's from other Mexican restaurants. The menu features the standards, in addition to several shrimp dishes including shrimp ceviche (available Fridays and Saturdays only) and tacos de camerones.

Henri's by Jorge is open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Call 634-9031 for more.
