Hobo eggs at Crazy Brothers Diner, one of the Springs' best diners

Crazy Brothers Diner opened in the former Crazy Otto’s at the start of 2017. Recently, Indy readers voted them the third-best diner in town in our Best Of issues. So we dropped by for a midday breakfast, and we find that the menu hasn’t changed much from the Crazy Otto’s days, though prices seem to have gone down. We start with coffee ($2.50), diner-fine and refilled frequently; our server offers a to-go cup of hot brown goodness with the check. As for food, we’re feeling simple, so we order the hobo eggs ($9.99), a mess of pappardelle-shaped potato pieces, scrambled eggs, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes and mushrooms cooked together. It needs salt and pepper — and, for our tastes, a little hot sauce, already on the table — but it rates pretty good all the same. They’re out of side biscuits and gravy, so we get toast instead, which is fine. One final detail: A tin sign on one wall says: “If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in English, thank your military.” Make of that what you will.
