Most of us know Nick Forster as the host of e-Town, the live-recorded radio series that emanates from the show’s solar-powered performance space up in Boulder. Forster is an intelligent interviewer who features an insanely eclectic array of musicians on his program, which now airs on more than 300 stations nationwide. No less impressive is the fact that he leads the eTones, the group that serves as backing band for his guests’ performances, who’ve ranged from Ralph Stanley to Ray LaMontagne and from Irma Thomas to Townes Van Zandt. But fans of bluegrass and other roots-music styles will also know Forster as co-founder of the Colorado band Hot Rize, who won a number of awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association, as well as a Grammy nomination, back in their ‘80s heyday. The band, whose name by the way comes from a leavening ingredient found in Martha White cornmeal mix, has periodically reunited since a parting of ways in 1990, and they’ll do so again for a tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of their first gigs that kicks off with three nights at the Boulder Theater, where special guests like Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas and Stuart Duncan will be joining the band onstage. The shows will also be recorded on video for future release, so be sure to dress nice.
