Humble Coffee quietly expands

Opened in 2014, Humble expanded from its Templeton Gap Road drive-thru to this kiosk in February. Local tattoo artist Mike Hedrick and girlfriend Shelly Mirenda purchased it from founder Zach Hoerth last year, changing very little. Despite having no visibility from Powers Boulevard, Barnes Road seems to offer enough traffic, though it’s no street-clogging downtown Dutch Bros.

It could become that popular, with equally sweet drinks for non-snooty java heads. They’re creatively conceived; organic Mexican-Ugandan blend based; and well-made. The lovely Aloha ($4/12-ounce) latte leads with a hint of peanut on account of white espresso, finding middle with velvety, rounded coconut notes and finishing with a subtle lavender kiss. But say no to nutmeg/cinnamon dusting on the like-priced, white espresso-made Chakra, which punches strong, leaving only hints of cardamom and clove sans ginger from a chai tea infusion.
