Hunan Springs’ wor wonton soup is a meal on its own

There’s nothing like soup for a cold, and while it’s not Grandma’s chicken noodle, wor wonton soup can do the job. Its name translates, roughly, to wonton soup with everything, and that’s certainly what we get in our Hunan Springs take-out container. Ours comes packed with meat and veggies in a mild broth. Zucchini, snow peas, cabbage, onion, carrot and broccoli all have a pleasant toothsomeness. The wontons themselves have a slightly flavored filling, but they’re pleasant enough alongside super tender chicken, mellow char siu pork and shrimp we’re pretty sure were lightly battered at one point. While that soup’s a meal on its own, we also order the bean curd Szechuan style, and, ordering online, we select the second spiciest heat level. That turns out to be a conservative option, as the savory brown sauce that the tender tofu, peas and carrot cubes bathe in rates a medium, maybe a medium-hot. Still, it’s a filling lunch with steamed rice.
