Hungry Howie’s is another chain pizza delivery joint, this one specializing in crusts with various seasonings brushed on them. Some folks may have seen this name around: The Michigan-based outfit has been in business for almost 50 years, and the Springs franchise — opened in 2018 — stands as one of only two in Colorado.

We stop in for a signature ’za, picking an Asian chicken pizza, and an order of Howie Bread. The former comes topped with grilled chicken, red onions, green peppers, sesame seeds and mozzarella, with red sauce ditched for “Asian sauce” that leads sweet and finishes powerfully salty with a faint chile pepper heat. Good crust means good pizza, but ours comes with a relatively close texture, though there are a few bigger bubbles. It’s pretty standard chain fare, dusted with cornmeal, though our requested garlic herb crust makes only minor changes.

The Howie Bread resembles Domino’s or Little Caesar’s, pizza crust topped with butter, granulated garlic, oregano and green can-style Parmesan. It’s fine dipped in side red sauce, but we’d try the stuffed variant in the future.
