Indy brings home regional awards

The Independent brought home a total of 20 awards from the Society of Professional Journalists' Top of the Rockies contest on April 20, where it competed against mid-sized news organizations in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

"We're pleased by the strong showing this year, and very proud of our editorial team and art director," says Editor Matthew Schniper.

The Indy took first place for: Feature Design, "Free & Queer," Dustin Glatz; Multimedia Story, "The Blame Game," Pam Zubeck, Craig Lemley and Rosa Byun; Marijuana Enterprise Reporting, "Storage Wars," Nat Stein; Politics: General Reporting, "Redneck Revolt," Stein; and Legal Enterprise Reporting, "A Just Fight," J. Adrian Stanley.

The Indy roped in second place awards for: Column/Personal Humor, "Queer & There," Alissa Smith; Single Page Design, "The Practical Painter," Glatz; Info Graphic, "Who's Who," Glatz; Front Page Design, "Holiday in Dystopia," Glatz; Multimedia Story, "Holiday in Dystopia," Griffin Swartzell, Lemley, Todd Jones and Glatz; and A&E Food Criticism, Schniper.

Zubeck also took home three third place awards; Glatz, two; Swartzell, one; Stein, one; Smith, one; and Stanley, one.
