Inertia Coffee is nothing less than impressive

We’re quite impressed by Inertia: for highly knowledgeable and sincere service; very cool design touches, from techie art nouveau logo and bag design to geeky science equipment like beakers as glassware; plus overall quality coffee. That’s thanks to owners and proud Navy vets Brian and Joanna Derheimer, who opened shop in November.

After sniffing sample jars of all house-roasted beans, we agree on a traditional macchiato ($3.25/12-ounce) to spotlight a Brazilian bean, dark-roasted, showing faint caramel and toffee under toast. (They prefer nutty, earthy, richer roasts over fruit-forward ones, he says.) We like how a Salvadoran pourover ($4) plays medium and lighter, citrusy up front fading to smooth raw cacao, as advertised. For a sweet finish, a Concentrated Dark Matter ($2.25) shot laces Brazilian espresso with half-and-half and hazelnut syrup for a potent, liqueur-like treat.
