IQ: Rants and raves

The California-based Love Festival is bringing electronic dance music to Colorado Springs this weekend. Given its sparse radio play and negative publicity for the rave scene, it's hardly surprising that some don't feel the "Love."

There's an electronic music fest coming here this weekend. On a scale of 1 to 10, how interested are you? Zero.

When you think of a rave, what kind of atmosphere do you think of? A party is all I think of.

What genre of music do you think is most misunderstood? Classical. People just don't have an appreciation for it anymore.

What musician would you like to trade lives with for a day? Amy Grant, because of what she stands for and her Christian influence.

This weekend there's an electronic music festival. On a scale of 1 to 10, how interested are you? Ten. I'll go if you tell me where it is.

Have you ever been to a rave before? What was it like? Yes, when they first started. It was surreal. It was magical, something words can't explain unless you're there.

Do you own any vinyl albums? Not anymore. I used to have some, not a lot.

What do you think the most misunderstood genre of music is? Electronic and death metal. People will stereotype you for liking a certain type of music and put you into a category when you just like music.

If you could be an excellent underground DJ or a famous pop star, which would you choose? Michael Jackson, a pop star.

There's an electronic music festival in the Springs this weekend. On a scale of 1 to 10, how interested are you? About a nine.

Have you ever been to a rave before? What was the experience like? I have, about 15 years ago. It was good. I haven't been in a while, but I love it. I still love the music.

Do you own any vinyl albums? How often do you listen to them? I do. About once or twice a month. Not very often, not as much as I used to.

What genre of music is most misunderstood? Rap. All people really hear is the cuss words in it, but you've got to listen to the story in it. The trials and tribulations.

If you could trade lives with any musician for a day, who would it be? Dave Matthews. There's something spiritual about him. He's creative.
