IQ: The witching hour

The witching hour

One dark and stormy night my friend John and I went trick-or-treating and I took an extra bag telling all of the nice people with buckets of candy that my little brother was sick and that he wanted some candy too. Needless to say, I don't really have a little brother, but by the end of the night I had more candy than I knew what to do with. Of course, I split the profits with my accomplice.

What's your best ghost story? My best ghost story is that when I was 10 I went over to England and toured the castle that Mary Queen of Scots was held in before she was beheaded. And I still swear to this day that I saw her ghost.

When's the last time you went trick-or-treating? With my little girl? On my own ... it's been at least 40 years.

What's the best costume you've ever seen? The best costume that I've ever seen was last year on The Today Show, and a woman was dressed up like Dorothy and she had her little dog and her little kids were dressed up as munchkins. It was really cute.

Who's the scariest politician? Doug Bruce. Because he's a loose canon. You say "cut taxes" to people and they think, "Oh, that's great." But they don't think about all the programs that are being hurt by all these tax cuts.

What's the scariest prank anybody's ever pulled on you? I think I've pulled more pranks than anybody's pulled on me.

When's the last time you went trick-or-treating? Probably 30 years ago, 40 years ago.

Who's the scariest politician? I would have to say George W. Bush. He's scary; his whole family is scary. I think I've watched a program where somehow their family's connected to a cult group called "Skull & Bones."

What's your best ghost story? I remember staying in a relative's house one time and having the feeling that somebody was sitting on the end of the bed while I was sleeping. And they said that that was a typical occurrence there.

What's the best costume you've ever seen? I was at a Halloween party about three years ago and there was a guy done up as Wolfman and he used all cotton and he glued it to his face. Very life-like.

Who's the scariest politician? I'd have to say Buchanan; his politics really scare me sometimes.

When's the last time you went trick-or-treating? We've got something very similar in Germany; it's called St. Martin's Day, and on that day children go from door to door and they sing songs, almost like trick-or-treat.

What's the best costume you've ever seen? It was at a masquerade in Germany. Somebody dressed up like a character from Gotham City. And I thought that was something because it was sweaty all over his body afterward.

Who's the scariest politician? Well, in America right now I think it would be George W. Bush.

The first time I was ever whitewashed was on a cold Halloween when I was about 12. Some big kids decided they'd rather introduce me to the experience of having snow inside your shirt than go door to door for candy.
