From bad to worst

Colorado Springs' public transit system is consistently ranked among the worst in the nation's metropolitan areas. Even still, city officials put it under the guillotine for a while during this budget season.

I didn't even own a car for six of those years. - - Why don't you use the bus service here? I've looked into it, but Colorado Springs has the worst bus system I've seen. The earliest bus comes by 30 minutes after I have to be at work. Several times, I've had to walk home from downtown because I missed the last bus leaving for my neighborhood at 6 p.m. on a Saturday. - - What things do you associate with riding the bus? It's environmentally good, it's cheaper than using a car, and it's a social common denominator a wide spectrum of people use it.

I didn't have to worry about traffic, I could read while riding it, it got me where I needed to go. - - Do you use the bus service here? It's not extensive enough. It doesn't go to enough places, or often enough. - - How important is good bus service for a city? It's critical. It allows people who don't have a car to get around, it helps air pollution, it reduces traffic congestion.

Going to college, having kids early, I didn't own a car until I was 22 or so. - - How did that bus service stack up to here? I could get anywhere I wanted to go, and buses ran a lot more frequently. My son uses the bus here a lot. He sometimes waits an hour for it to come, and when he gets off, he has to walk two miles to get where he needs to be. - - How important is a good bus system? People who can't afford cars or car insurance rely on the bus to get to work. - - How would things change for you if you relied on bus service? I'd have to devote a lot more of my day to waiting for the bus, and to getting to and from work. - - Name a city with good public transportation. Besides Salt Lake, I've used public transportation in Seattle and Chicago, and they have great systems you can get by in both places quite well without a car.
