Is VDARE a white supremacy organization?

Publisher's Note

On August 16, 2017, the Independent published a blog on our website referring to white identity group VDARE’s efforts to hold a conference locally. In that blog, we described VDARE as advocating ”white supremacy.”

VDARE attorney Randy B. Corporon subsequently contacted us asking for an apology for the characterization. The following is our response to him:

We are writing relating to your demand that the Colorado Springs Independent newsweekly apologize for our reporting about your client’s unsuccessful efforts to host a “white supremacy/white power” national conference in our beloved city.

After a thorough review, we stand by our reporting, and believe you have no grounds to seek a retraction.

But on the day of this writing, Feb. 12 — the 209th anniversary of the birth of America’s 16th President, Abraham Lincoln — we want to offer your client not what is legally mandated, but what is fair.

And while your analysis and accusations, to use a technical term, are bunk, we believe that you have the right to your boneheaded opinions.
We also know that our 200,000 print and digital readers are intelligent enough to see through your legal bluster.

Accordingly, since the reporting you objected to was featured on our website, we will reprint your client’s response unedited on our website, directly below our original reporting.

In addition, we will reprint this letter in our newspaper, thus alerting our print readers that they can see our original reporting as well as your response, unedited here.
