For the most part, every country has something they do better than anyone else. To paraphrase a woman from Liechtenstein I met while in Dublin in July, if an American says the steak is good, that’s quite an endorsement. And while I’ve not had the opportunity to bring someone from Ireland to Jack Quinn’s, it does recall the real thing I saw in Dublin, at least in decor.

All lunch specials run $10, non-alcoholic drink included. The lunch steak salad comes cooked to-order — I go rare and find my steak to temperature — atop mixed greens, tomatoes and red onions, with Parmesan and creamy horseradish-peppercorn dressing atop. It’s hard to complain about rare beef and black pepper, though the horseradish doesn’t play a big role. The onions and tomatoes balance the creamy dressing, and for $10, there’s a respectable amount of beef. And if an American says the steak is good, well, I hear that means something.
