Jake Loggins has been playing Colorado Springs bars since well before he was actually old enough to play Colorado Springs bars. The son of local bluesman Lobo Loggins, he was quickly recognized as a gifted electric guitarist with a penchant for Hendrix and other classic-rock gods, which made him a dominant force on the downtown club scene for much of a decade.

If you're wondering why the Jake Loggins Band hasn't been showing up on fliers or marquees lately, it's because he and his young family relocated earlier this summer to Sandy, Utah, where he's now employed as a surgical microscope specialist. In the process, he announced that he'll be retiring from playing music.

He did, back in late 2011, following the birth of his first child and a steady job in construction. To no one's surprise, he was back onstage within a year, performing as guitarist in Justus League and putting his own band together.

While it's true that you won't be seeing Jake Loggins at Oscar's or Stargazers anytime soon, you can still get a hold of his 2011 debut album, Have a Nice Day, through Amazon and other online music services. Given the high percentage of cover material that goes along with playing three sets a night, the album's unexpected focus on original and, in some cases, very personal songwriting showed another side to the blues-rocker's talents. Just turn up the volume and picture him onstage, smoking a cigarette, playing guitar, and singing — all at the same time — and it's just like being there.
