Stylish, steampunk-themed Java Punk’s been open just weeks when we venture in to be charmed by thoughtful decor — explore to discover the hidden WiFi code. Inertia Coffee provides the beans, and I’m talked into The Strand ($6.25), named for the U.K. fiction magazine that first published the Sherlock Holmes series. It places three Brazilian espresso shots over locally made framboise raspberry jam plus fresh blackberries, topped with whipped cream and raspberry syrup. The coffee’s potent enough to combat cloying; it’s lovely. Next, the Lewis Carroll ($4/16-ounce) blends root beer syrup with honeycrisp apple cider, for a sweet flavor interplay I’d never tried. Lastly, the London Fog ($4.95/16-ounce) starts with steamed milk and steeped Earl Grey, infused with dried lavender buds, with a touch of Madagascar bourbon vanilla extract. Get a recommended lemon biscotti ($1) to dip; its sweet-and-sour glaze plays off the tea’s bergamot citrus beautifully.
