Jeffrey Broussard & the Creole Cowboys

When: Fri., April 8, 7-9 p.m. 2016
Phone: 481-0475
Price: $15-$25

More often than not, Zydeco music comes across as a lot less serious than its Cajun cousin. Despite shared bayou origins and accordions, there's a world of difference between the carefree "Don't Mess With My Toot Toot" and the mournful "Jolie Blond." Of course, things aren't always that clear-cut. Take, for example, Jeffery Broussard & the Creole Cowboys, who'll be making their way up from Louisiana to play the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts this evening. The son of sharecropper musician Delton Broussard, Jeffery favors a sound that's just a shade deeper and rougher than Zydeco crossover acts who make showmanship their first priority. Which is not to say the dance floor won't be full at his show; Broussard does, after all, cover Louisiana legend Tabby Thomas' "I Love Big Fat Women." It's just that when you do sit back down, the music will still command your attention. 7 p.m., 304 CO-105, Palmer Lake, $15/members, $20/non-members, 481-0475, — Bill Forman
