Re: “Shit hits the fan for Meadow Muffins

I worked at Meadow Muffins about 2 years ago myself. I ALWAYS loved going to Meadow Muffins. I can easily say myself that it's location was fun, the burgers, wings, and fried items were real good in comparison to other places, and nights there were always a good time. Before I accepted a job there, I had heard stories about how the owner of the place was a real asshole, but none of the people I had heard it from were what I would consider reliable sources of judgment in anyone's character. When I applied for a cook position, the night manager who met and interviewed me was an awesome person - I got hired on the spot. The pay was good enough, and I loved the people that came in, I genuinely REALLY LIKED my job there. I wanted to make my employers and customers happy. After about 2 days there I got the opportunnity to meet Todd, the owner... and I could immediately tell by the way the atmosphere in the entire building changed when Todd and his wife came in, that everything I had heard was quite possibly true. Todd himself ran the place like an intolerant, unforgiving, and infinitely suspicious and angry dictator. EVERYONE who worked there ALWAYS tried hard, or they would never had gotten the job in the first place, but Todd was never content - and his wife never did anything but agree. Between pissing off customers and discouraging employees, he was always pointing fingers about what could be done better - and obviously being too lazy to lead by example himself, he would lead with intimidation. Everyone I knew who worked there, including myself, either got fired, walked out on Todd during one of his moments of rage, or quit because they were tired of being berated when EVERY ONE of them was just trying to do a good job and please everyone. Todd wanted the bar and restaurant to be a money machine, run by slaves, who would be happy to kiss his ass and call it ice cream every time he decided to walk in and be abusive. But Todd was the problem, nobody else. He would fire people constantly, and always expected perfection, immediately and always. Todd was the type of person who could find something wrong with anything or anyone at anytime, and he was a disrespectful and beligerant jerk about it every time. I couldn't quite grasp why someone with his perception of people could possibly want to own and manage a business involving any employees other than himself and his wife. Good fucking riddance, he was never going to get what he wanted out of the kind of people who would be willing to work with him, he didn't deserve it. Still, regardless... I like the location and the ambiance of the place, even if the food changes it'll still and always be a cool place... it deserves someone at least enthusiastic about service, food, and customers. I congratulate the new owner, and I know the locals will welcome the change. All it ever needed was someone internally stable enough to run the place with heart - someone who sees employees as something other than a calculated cost of doing business. Thankfully Todd handed the keys over to someone else... I hope he is a happier person because of it.
